Swimming Announces Signees For the Fall of 2010

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming teams announced the signing of five future Monarchs and Lady Monarchs for the fall of 2010.

Joining the men's squad will be Daniel Camozzo (Herndon, Va.), while swimming for the Lady Monarchs next fall are Molly Capes (Alpharetta, Ga.), MaryRose Palermo (Marietta, Ga.), Alicia Huther (Apex, N.C.), and Abby Vance (Raleigh, N.C.).

Daniel Camozzo comes to Old Dominion by way of Herndon High School and Machine Aquatics Club where he swam for coach Christian Doud. Among his best times are 4:36.45 in the 500 free, 52.42 in the 100 fly, and 1:54.66 in the 200 fly. Camozzo plans to major in chemistry.

Molly Capes comes to the Tidewater area from Chattahoochee High School and swmming for Jeff Hike with the Swim Atlanta club team. Among her best times are 1:55.0 in the 200 free, 59.56 in the 100 back, and 2:07.34 in teh 200 back. Capes plans to major in nursing

MaryRose Palermo will join the ODU women's swimming team from Walton High School. Like future teammate Capes, Palermo also swam at Swim Atlanta under the tutledge of Rick Volger. Swimming in multiple events, her top times have included 53.18 in the 100 free, 57.81 in the 100 fly, 59.34 in teh 100 back, and 4:30.29 in the 400 IM. Palermo is undecided in a major.

Alicia Huther comes to Old Dominion from Apex High School and swimming with the New Wave Swim Team under the guidance of John Roy. Swimming the breaststroke, among her best times are 1:05.69 in the 100 breast and 2:21.62 in the 200 breast. Huther plans to major in education.

Abby Vance joins the Lady Monarchs in the fall of 2010 from Leesville Road High School. Vance also swam with Huther at New Wave Swim Team with coach John Roy. Swimming the freestyle, she has captured top times of 53.15 in the 100 free, 1:53.10 in the 200 free, and 4:59.06 in the 500 free. Vance plans to major in business.

The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and team squad hits the water in January when they travel to Florida for their annual winter training trip.
