NORFOLK, VA -- Red-shirt freshman Chris Brown was named Co-Rookie of the Week today by the Colonial Athletic Association for his efforts in all competition before December 4th. Brown is ranked 17th in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News as he has jumped to a quick 12-4 start.
The nationally ranked 157 pounder is the first Monarch to win the award since teammate Ryan Williams last February. Brown placed second at the Michigan State Open, third at Lock Haven's Mat Town and fourth at Cornell's Body Bar tournament, and leads the team in major decisions.
Brown has succeeded in winning 12 of his first 16 collegiate bouts, with all four losses coming to ranked opponents. Brown lost all four matches by a combined 7 points.
Hofstra's Chris Weidman and Drexel's Ryan Hluschak were the CAA's Wrestlers of the Week while Brown was joined by Hofstra's Lou Ruggirello as Co-Rookie of the Week.
Old Dominion will play host for the first time of 2006-07 when the CAA's George Mason University arrives Friday, December 8th. The dual is set to start at 6:00 pm at Blair Middle School. Directions to Blair will be included in the weekly game notes on the website Wednesday.
