Christian Staylor; Adam Wright Ranked Nationally

NORFOLK, VA -Redshirt Sophomore Christian Staylor (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge/125) and Junior Adam Wright (Dayton, VA/184) are ranked in the latest national rankings, released this week.  Staylor, coming off a runner-up finish at 125 pounds at the Irwin-Carolina Open December 4 and a dual victory December 10 against Pittsburgh-Johnstown, is ranked #8 in the NWCA poll, #12 by Amateur Wrestling News, #13 by W.I.N. Magazine and #18 by The Wrestling Mall.  Adam Wright, also a runner-up at the Carolina Open, won both dual matches December 10, and is ranked #20 by The Wrestling Mall.


The Monarchs are taking a break in action for final exams and will be back in action December 29-30, when they participate in both The Midlands in Evanston, IL and the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, NC.  T


The 42nd annual Midlands, hosted by Northwestern University, will feature one of most diverse fields in its history.  Wrestlers will come from 28 different states, from all regions of the country.  A seeding committee has compiled a preliminary rankings list for the tournament of the top 100 ranked wrestlers.  Christian Staylor is ranked 9th at 125, while Adam Wright is 7th at 184. 


Christian Staylor will enter the tournament with a 12-3 record for the year, 11-3 in tournament action.  Staylor is 2-2 against the rest of the top 10 seeds in the 125 weight class, defeating Penn State's Adam Smith twice during Mat Town, dropping a 9-3 decision to Indiana's Joe Dubuque--also at Mat Town--and dropping a 3-2 decision to Michigan State's Nick Simmons during the championship bout at the Carolina Open.


Adam Wright is 0-1 against the top 10, dropping a 8-4 decision to #10 Andy Rios of Indiana at Mat Town.
