IRVING, TX - Conference USA announced today that Old Dominion University, who will Join the league as a full-time member in 2013, will have five spring sports become affiliate C-USA members effective this season. The sports of men's and women's golf, men's and Women's tennis and women's rowing will become members of Conference USA for the 2012-13 season, competing in the league's 2013 Championships.

"We are very grateful to Commissioner Britton Banowsky. and the CUSA Board of Directors for allowing five spring intercollegiate athletic programs at ODU to participate immediately in the CUSA 2013 spring championships. This opportunity will serve our student-athletes well by providing a chance to compete for a conference championship while also competing for NCAA postseason play. CUSA is a very challenging league, especially in the spring sports of golf, tennis and crew. I know our coaches and student-athletes will benefit from this CUSA tournament experience as we begin our transition into CUSA permanently July 1, 2013. - Wood Selig, ODU Athletic Director

"We are excited about each of these additions," Banowsky said. "These teams have achieved some impressive accomplishments competitively and in the classroom. We feel they will add to the already strong competition in our conference." This move was made possible because the sports involved are individual sports in which the programs compete in a conference championship tournament but do not play a regular-season conference schedule. The team sports including football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, field hockey, baseball and wrestling, will still play a Colonial Athletic Association schedule in 2012-13, but will be unable to participate in postseason conference tournaments.

ODU will become a full member of Conference USA on July 1, 2013 and will be eligible for all championships except football in 2013-14. The ODU football program will be in transition the next two years (2013 and 2014) towards Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Monarchs will become eligible for the Conference USA Football title and postseason bowl games in 2015.
