Breen Headlines Five Lady Monarchs Named to All-State Teams

Sarah Breen was named Virginia's Rookie of the Year

2012: Named to the NFHCA All-South Region Second Team... Second Team All-State selection... Second Team All-CAA selection... Started all 21 games... Recorded a team-high 11 assists which was tied for second in the CAA... Responsible for 11 points and took 13 shots... Tied for second on the team and in the CAA with three defensive saves... Had two assists in the wins at James Madison (10/21) and at Hofstra (9/21)... Selected to the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Field Hockey Team... Competed in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) as part of U.S. Junior National team in January 2013.

2011: WomensFieldHockey.com National Rookie of the Year...Selected as CAA Rookie of the Year... Named to the NFHCA All-South Region Second Team... Named Rookie of the Year in Virginia... Led the team and tied for fourth in the CAA with 13 assists... Started all 25 games and scored four goals and 21 points on 22 shots... Named CAA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 25 after scoring a goal in each of ODU's wins that week over James Madison and VCU...Scored her first collegiate goal and dished out an assist for a three-point game in ODU's 4-1 win over No. 10 American (8/28)...Named to the U21 USA Field Hockey National Team after performing well for the Mid-Atlantic squad at the Junior High Performance camp at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach...Named to NFHCA National Academic Squad.

Prior to Old Dominion: Won her third Southeastern District Player of the Year award and received her third All-State honor as a senior at Lakeland High School in 2010...Guided the Lady Cavaliers to a 24-0 record for the school's first team state championship since going from Group AA to Group AAA in 1996...Set the national high school record for assists with 124 in her four years...Graduated with Honores from Lakeland...Member of the National Society of High School Scholars.

Why ODU?: "I chose ODU because it has a great hockey program. I liked all of the girls, and the coaching staff is pretty amazing. ODU also has what I'm looking for as far as school goes. They have programs that I can get into that will help me with my major. I'm looking forward to playing hockey in college and beginning my college journey!"
