Sailing Wraps Up Season with Ninth Place Finish at Gill/Dinghy National Championships

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The fifth-ranked Old Dominion University concluded their season on Thursday with a top-10 finish at the 2013 Gill/Dinghy National Championships by claiming ninth place.
Old Dominion's ninth place finish in the coed dinghy national championships this season is their best since they took fourth in San Francisco in 2009.
The Monarchs held their ninth place finish from the end of Wednesday's racing in the final four races of the national championships on Thursday. ODU was able to hold off St. Mary's from closing in but could not gain enough ground on either Roger Williams or Yale who finished in seventh and eighth place respectively.
No. 10 College of Charleston led all three days of the event and won the national championship with 215 points and was followed by No. 3 Georgetown (235), No. 9 Dartmouth (256), No. 6 Brown (265) and No. 8 Boston College (291) rounding out the top five in the 18-team field. Top-ranked Stanford moved up nine spots from opening day and was just outside of the top five in sixth place.
ODU's A-Division tandem of senior skipper and team captain Dillon Paiva and senior skipper Zachary Runci and the crew combination of freshman Cooper Paiva, junior Chloe Constants and freshman Joe David finished in 10th place with 172 points freshman skipper Esteban Forrer and junior crew Julia Wiesner took seventh place in the B-Division race with 152 points.
