Agugua Accepts New Post at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Old Dominion University women’s basketball assistant coach Amaka Agugua was named an assistant coach on the Michigan State staff on Monday.

Agugua spent the past two seasons as an assistant on head coach Karen Barefoot’s staff, serving as the recruiting coordinator while helping to coach eight all-CAA players in addition to guiding the Lady Monarchs to a 19-12 record last season and an appearance in the WNIT.

"I would like to personally thank Amaka for her recruiting efforts and commitment to developing our student-athletes over the past two years," said Barefoot. "She's done a great job here and I wish her all the best in her new position at Michigan State."

Agugua returns to familiar territory in the Big Ten as she served as the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach at Indiana for two years before coming to Old Dominion. She joins a Michigan State team that went 25-9 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans were tied for third in the regular season and advanced to the Big Ten Championship game before being selected as an at-large team in the 2013 field.

“I am truly grateful for the opportunity afforded to me at ODU by Coach Barefoot and Athletic Director (Dr. Camden) Wood Selig,” said Agugua. “I enjoyed my time while there and am honored to be a part of the rebuilding process. I am enthused and eager to start my journey with Coach Merchant and the Spartan Family.”
