Norfolk, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team will host C-USA foe Charlotte (9-6-2) in their final game of the season on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex. Last Matches
On Sunday, ODU dropped a 4-3 (OT) nail-biter to the Lady Eagles of Southern Miss. The Lady Eagles’ Adriana Garcia notched an impressive two goals in the first twelve minutes of play to put ODU behind 2-0 early. Southern Miss entered halftime still clinging to the 2-0 lead.

In the 51st minute of play, ODU freshman Melanie Oakes found the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1. Shortly thereafter, in the 61st minute, fellow Lady Monarch freshman Grace Haverly scored her first career goal to knot the score at 2-2. The teams traded another goal each in the waning minutes, with Danica Roberts scoring for Southern Miss and Jordan Jones notching a goal for ODU to send the game to overtime deadlocked at 3-3.

In overtime, the Southern Miss struck in the 100th minute, as Danielle Beatty scored off a cross from Danica Roberts, ending the game with a 4-3 (OT) victory in their favor.

Last Friday night, the Lady Monarchs fell to Rice 5-2 in Houston, Texas. The Owls wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as sophomore Lauren Hughes intercepted a pass from Erin Kinz and scored her sixth goal of the season to put Rice up 1-0 early.

Just two minutes later, however, ODU’s leading-scorer Jessie Klamut answered back with a goal of her own, knotting the score at 1-1. Then, still in the 12th minute of play, Rice’s Lauren Hughes added her second goal of the evening to reclaim the lead. The Owls were able to notch two more goals before the half, off of a Jasmine Isokpunwu header and a shot by Jessica Howard to increase the lead to 4-1.

In the second half, ODU got on the board once again in the 56th minute after a goal from sophomore midfielder Devin Dougherty. However, just a minute later, Rice’s Gabriela Iribarne capitalized off of a pass from Lauren Hughes and placed a ball into the net, giving Rice a 5-2 lead that they would maintain until the game’s final whistle.

Charlotte – Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 – 7 p.m.
ODU will square off against Charlotte (9-6-2) in their final game of the season on Thursday at the ODU Soccer Complex.
