Monarchs Travel to Cradle Gear Invitational Sunday

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominon Monarchs will participate in the 2013 Cradle Gear Invitational (formerly known as Brute Invitational) this Sunday, December 29 at the Thomas Fieldhouse in Lock Haven, Pa.

The field includes a dozen wrestlers ranked in the Amateur Wrestling News (AWN) rankings from these teams- No. 22 Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, Drexel, Gardner Webb, George Mason, Buffalo, Binghamton, Kent State, Franklin & Marshall, American, Michigan State, Bucknell and Old Dominion.

Each team is allowed a maximum of 20 wrestlers with a maximum of three at any one weight. The team score will be determined from one wrestler at each weight. If two wrestlers are entered at a particular weight, the athlete who scores the most points will count towards the team score.


First Round--9 a.m.
Quarterfinals - noon
Semifinals--3 p.m.
Finals --6 p.m.

Tickets for Adults are $10, $3 for students and children (under 5) are free.

ODU Outlook:

Tristan Warner (157) is back this season and wrestling with an 8-3 record. Warner is ranked as high as No. 14 in the Wrestling Report poll. 141-pounder Chris Mecate is 10-3 this year and has victories over ranked opponents Jesse Thielke and Tyler Small. Mecate is ranked as high as No. 8 in the Intermat poll and is 2-0 in conference duals on the season.

Old Dominion had seven wrestlers place at last year's Brute Invitational. Alexander Richardson (149) and Billy Curling (174) both took first place in their weight class with Marcus Johnson (174) and Jake Henderson (197) finishing second.
