LANCASTER, Pa. - Old Dominion wrestler Austin Eads finished first while competing unattached at the Franklin & Marshall Open in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The 149-pound true freshman Eads defeated Thomas Quinlan (Franklin & Marshall) 19-3 by a tech fall, Nicholas Maselli (Princeton) by a 17-6 major decision, Joe Esposito (Kutztown) by a 3-2 decision, Cole Moseley (American) by a fall 2:00 and Richard Krop (Princeton) by a fall at 4:34 to win the 149-pound championship.
ODU wrestlers Jordan Marshall (157) and Kevin Johnson (149) finished in 5th place and 6th place in their respective weight classes. Marshall went 6-2 on the day and defeated Derek Geiges (Oklahoma) by a fall at 1:43 to finish in 5th place. Johnson started the Open with 4-straight wins before falling in the 5th place match.
Wrestling for the Monarchs at the Franklin & Marshall Open were Jake Velarde (141), Johnson (149), Eads (149), Marshall (157) and Zach Wilson (157) who all competed unattached.
