Soccer Monarchs Honored At Basketball Game

The ODU Soccer Monarchs who advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in the last 12 years under head coach Alan Dawson were honored at halftime of the ODU men's basketball game against UTEP Saturday night in the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

The Monarchs compiled an 11-6-1 record and finished second in the regular season in their -first season in C-USA with a 7-2 mark.

ODU would go on to defeat Drexel, 5-1 in the opening round of the NCAA before losing to sixth seed Georgetown, 3-0.

The Monarchs were 2-2-1 this season against nationally ranked teams. ODU defeated fellow C-USA rivals Tulsa and UAB, lost to national semifinalist New Mexico and in overtime to Creighton and tied Maryland.

Senior TIm Hopkinson was named second team All-American by the NSCAA, C-USA Offensive Player of the Year, and Player of the Year in the State of Virginia.Senior defender Jason Gaylord and goalkeeper Sean Stowe earned All-C-USA honors while freshmen Jesse Miralrio and Cole stringer were selected to the C-USA All-Rookie squad.
