Scott Johnson Receives Athletic Trainers Service Award

NORFOLK, VA—Old Dominion University Associate Athletic Trainer Scott Johnson has been awarded the 2014 Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainer’s Association (MAATA) Service Award. 

MAATA is comprised of athletic trainers within the District of  Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. MAATA Athletic Trainer Service Award is a prestigious honor that recognizes qualified MAATA members for their exceptional service and unique contributions to the athletic training profession. 

Johnson has been at Old Dominion University for 26 years, 19 as an assistant athletic trainer and seven as an associate athletic trainer.  He served as the men's basketball athletic trainer for 19 years. He is currently a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Virginia Athletic Trainers Association. In May of 2008, Johnson was named Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year by the College and University Athletic Trainers Committee of the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Johnson graduated from Bridgewater State College in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He earned a master's of science degree in education from ODU in 1987. Scott and his wife Elena, who is a 1991 graduate of ODU, have two sons, Andrew and Michael.
