ATLANTA, Ga. – The No. 46 ranked Yellow Jackets from Georgia Tech (5-1) defeated the Old Dominion Tennis Monarchs (6-2) by a score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. Both No. 44 Carlos Lopez Villa and Zvonimir Podvinski continued their winning ways and picked up singles wins, while the tandem of Darragh Glavin and Koen Wiggermans claimed victory in their doubles match.

ODU’s No. 44 ranked Carlos Lopez Villa handled business in three sets against GT’s Nasthan Rakitt 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5). With the win, Old Dominion’s junior right-hander from Madrid, Spain advances his overall record to a perfect 8-0 on the season. Astonishingly, Saturday’s second set for Lopez Villa was the first set that Lopez Villa has dropped this entire season.

The Monarch’s Zvonimir Podvinkski got the starting nod in singles at No. 4, and proved to be too much for the Yellow Jacket’s Casey Kay, as Podvinkski took the marathon-like three-setter 6-5, 5-6 (3-7), 1-0 (10-8). ODU’s 5’11 sophomore from Zagreb, Croatia now moves to 7-1 on the year.

Old Dominion’s pair of Darragh Glavin and Koen Wiggermans pulled out a tight doubles match over Georgia Tech’s Cole Fiegel and Will Showers 6-5 (7-2).

The Ramblin’ Wreck’s sole loss this season came on Friday night at the hands of No. 24 ranked Auburn, 4-3.

Old Dominion will return home for their next two matches. On Saturday Feb. 22, the Monarchs will welcome C-USA member UTSA at 1:00 p.m. for a conference showdown at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Then on Sunday, Feb. 23, ODU will take George Washington at 11:00 a.m.
