NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s tennis team (9-4) took care of the Bison from Bucknell University (0-6) by a score of 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

Action got started with the Tennis Monarchs grabbing the double’s point, after Zvonimir Podvinski and Koen Wiggemans made quick work of Bucknell’s Scott Bernstein and Chris Tortora, 8-0. ODU’s tandem of Dante Terenzio and Abdoulaye Camara took down Jonathan DeFrancesch and Irwin Reibeisen, 8-5, clinching a 1-0 lead to get things rolling for Old Dominion on Saturday.

Old Dominion’s No. 56 Carlos Lopez Villa got back to his winning ways on Saturday by defeating a feisty Nick Bybel (6-3, 6-3). Lopez Villa is now 12-1 on the season.

Jonas Kuwert was the first Monarch to clinch a single’s point for Old Dominion, as he won his first set 6-2 and was leading the second 3-0, when Bucknell’s Aidan Lynch retired.

ODU’s senior Dante Terenzio handled Octavio Canibe 6-1, 6-2, giving his Monarchs a 4-0 advantage. Abdoulaye Camara moved to 4-2 in single’s play on the season, after beating Irwin Reibeisen in two sets 6-0, 6-3.

Zvonimir Podvinski picked up win No. 10 and is now 10-3 for the season, as the right-hander from Croatia was too much for Kyle Rosen (6-1, 6-3).

In what turned out to be the match of the day, ODU’s Koen Wiggemans proved to be resilient and outlasted John DeFransesch (7-5, 4-6, 14-12) to claim victory and give the Monarchs a dominating 7-0 result over the Bison.
