NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's rowing team finished in first place in all five events following Saturday's Opening Spring meet against the University of North Carolina on the Lafayette River.

ODU secured four first place finishes on Senior Day in the Varsity 8 and placed first in the Varsity 4 race Saturday afternoon against the previous ACC Champion UNC Tar Heels.

"I am so proud of the entire team for their performance today," said ODU Head Coach Dan Garbutt. "I was really proud of the Varsity four group, the level of speed they showed relative to our eight's. We gave the girls a task of trying to be as close to sixty seconds off the Varsity 8 as possible. Little more work to do in every lineup, which is pretty much where everybody is at right now. Beautiful day for the race, Norfolk shined today."

The race began with the Varsity-8 and the Lady Monarchs came away with a first place time of 6:54.30 to UNC's 7:00.69. ODU was led by coxswain Lydia Cleveland with Erin O'Connell at stroke, Kennedy Stafford at 7, Paige Madison at 6, Raven Howser at 5, Colleen Rennie at 4, Jenna Sterling at 3, Marisa Fruetel at 2 and Keira Flanagan at bow.

The Lady Monarchs also finished first in the second Varsity-8 race as ODU won by a time of 7:04.28 to UNC's 7:05.81. Old Dominion was led by coxswain Nicole Sicurella with Kara Stephan at stroke, Kelsea Shiner at 7, Ashley Nardiello at 6, Chelsea Trice at 5, Jessica Donlan at 4, Carlie Cohen at 3, Miranda Brown at 2 and Shannon La Sala at bow.

In the Varsity-4 race Old Dominion came out on top with a time of 8:01.54 to UNC's 8:10.30. ODU's Varsity-4 was led by coxswain Megan DeHand with Leslie Lomax at stroke, Ashley Mauroff at 3, Katarina Bauer at 2 and Jackie Donlan at bow.

ODU's third Varsity-8 boat hit the water next as Old Dominion won with a time of 7:43.43 to UNC's Novice-8 time of 8:09.92. Coxswain Lindsey Sanford led the Lady Monarchs boat with Kaela Woods at stroke, Emily Hughes at 7, Sabrina Paulsen at 6, Brett Wolff at 5, May Williamson at 4, Keolewa Puhl at 3, Lauren Wright at 2 and Raven Woody at bow.

Old Dominion's third Varsity-8 boat went on to defeat UNC's second Novice-8 with a time of 7:38.97 to UNC's 8:27.85.

ODU continues their spring season at the annual San Diego Crew Classic in two weeks from April 5-6.
