Women's Tennis Set to Host ECU Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s tennis squad will host former Conference USA member, East Carolina, at the friendly confines of the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center on Wednesday March 24, at 4:00 p.m., where the Lady Monarchs are 6-1 on the year. This match was originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, but was postponed due to a winter storm. ODU’s most recent match with VCU was also postponed to April 7, because of adverse weather conditions.

The Lady Monarchs (8-4)
The Lady Monarchs are 5-2 in their last seven matches and 6-1 at home. Old Dominion bounced back after a 6-0 loss to No. 1 Duke on March 12 with a 4-3 victory against former CAA foe William and Mary, which gave Old Dominion 10 points in the Optima Health Challenge.

Nikol Hristova is 7-4 on the year as ODU’s No. 1, and her last win was over the No. 90-ranked single’s player in the country, Maria Belaya. Melissa

Esnal Oluin has won four out of her last six matches at the No. 6 position, including another win versus William and Mary on Friday.

The Lady Monarchs are 8-1 against non-ranked opponents on the year. In doubles, Hristova and Olguin are 7-2 on the season and one of those losses was at the hands of the No. 2 ranked doubles team in the country: Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey of Georgia Tech.

East Carolina (9-7)
The Pirates were 12-12 last season, and were ranked as high as No. 72 in the nation. ECU was led by Melis Tanik, who was 17-6 last season, 11-3 in the fall and garnered third team all-conference honors last year. Tanik is 8-5 this season and is coming off of two wins in a row.

ECU won four straight matches in their spring break trip to Puerto Rico. The Pirates are coming off a loss to Coastal Carolina 6-1 who is 13-2 on the season.

Tom Morris is the head coach of the Pirates, and a member of the North Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame. Morris is East Carolina's all-time winningest women's tennis coach and is in his 16th season at the helm of the Pirates' program. Over those sixteen years Morris has an overall record of 290-215 record.
