UAB to Host Men's & Women's Championships

DESTIN, Fla. - UAB and the City of Birmingham were selected to host to 2015 Conference USA Men's & Women's Basketball Championships, subject to approval by the league's Board of Directors.

The 2015 Championships are scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 through Saturday, March 14. Games will be held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center and Bartow Arena on the campus of UAB.

Five presentations on the site for the basketball championships were made to the athletics directors during Spring Meetings, with Birmingham getting the majority vote. Shreveport-Bossier, El Paso, Mississippi Gulf Coast and Hattiesburg, Miss., also bid. UAB and Birmingham hosted the C-USA Men's Basketball Championship in 1999 and the C-USA Women's Basketball Championship in 1996.

"We are very excited to be able to showcase our basketball teams in Birmingham, they will be tremendous hosts," C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky said. "We also were excited to learn about the great opportunities our other communities represent, each did a great job with the proposals and we have wonderful options for 2016 and beyond."

The Conference USA Board of Directors will meet in Dallas on Monday, June 9.
