ODU to Host United States Field Hockey Olympic Youth Day Camps

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University field hockey will host the United States Field Hockey Olympic Youth Day Camps from July 28-30 at the Powhatan Sports Complex.  The camps will last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Campers will be able to learn field hockey skills and play games with Olympic and national team athletes, including World Cup team captain and two-time Olympian, Lauren Crandall, Caroline Nichols, a two-time Olympian and also a member of the 2014 World Cup team, and also Amy Tran Swensen, the head coach of the site and ODU assistant coach, and also a two-time Olympian.

Lauren Crandall
A defender on the U.S. team, Crandall has played for the national team since 2005.  Crandall was a two-time national champion at Wake Forest and has played in 224 games with the U.S. national team.

Caroline Nichols
Nichols graduated from Old Dominion in 2007, the same year she joined the national team.  Nichols was named the 2006 CAA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, the only player in league history to receive both awards in the same year.  A defender on the national team, Nichols is a two-time Olympian and player on the 2014 World Cup team.

Amy Tran Swensen
The head coach of the camp, Swensen was a 2002 graduate of North Carolina and a member of the U.S. National Team from 2003-2012, performing in two Olympics.  She was a two-time All-American goalkeeper for the Tar Heels.
