LYNCHBURG, Va. – Brittany Aanderud’s first half goal lifted Liberty University over Old Dominion by a 1-0 score on Thursday afternoon. The win advances LU’s overall record to 1-2-1, while ODU falls to 1-3-0.

In the 22nd minute, Liberty’s Sami Santos found Baylee Gillmore who then crossed the ball to teammate Brittany Aanderud at the top of the box, where Aanderud was able to sneak her shot past ODU goalkeeper Erin Kinz. Aanderud’s second goal of the season gave the Lady Flames 1-0 advantage heading into the locker rooms after the first 45 minutes of play.

In the first half, Old Dominion outshot Liberty 7-6, as well as held a 5-2 advantage in the corner kick department. Liberty’s Holly Van Noord racked up five first half saves, while Kinz made one.

One of the Lady Soccer Monarchs better opportunities came in the 85th minute of play, when Madison Hogan drilled a shot which nailed the Liberty crossbar, inches away from tying the match at 1-1.

Old Dominion had one final corner kick with less than a minute remaining in regulation; however, LU managed to clear it away, giving the Lady Flames a 1-0 victory over the Lady Soccer Monarchs on Thursday afternoon in Lynchburg.
