No. 1 Ranked Virginia Remains Unbeaten After 3-0 Win Over ODU

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 1 nationally ranked Virginia (7-0-1) remained unbeaten after claiming a 3-0 win against the Old Dominion women’s soccer team (1-6) on Sunday afternoon, which marked Old Dominion's third consecutive match against a nationally ranked opponent.

The Cavaliers struck first at the 18:53 mark, when Alexis Shaffer gave UVA an 1-0 lead off an assist by Makenzy Doniak. Shaffer’s goal was her third for season.

Virginia’s Kristen McNabb stretched the home team’s advantage to 2-0 22:38 into the first half, after Meghan Cox assisted McNabb’s first score of the year.

UVA took its 2-0 lead with them into the locker rooms at halftime, while leading the shot count  (13-2) and corner kick tally (5-1). Old Dominion’s Erin Kinz made two saves in the first 45 minutes of play.

ODU head coach Angie Hind and her Lady Monarchs played the No. 1 team in the country even for the first 31 minutes of the second half, before Emily Sonnett converted on a header assisted by Alexis Shaffer for Sonnett’s third goal of the season, lifting the Cavaliers to a 3-0 lead and victory on Sunday afternoon in Charlottesville.  

For the match, Virginia outshot Old Dominion 27-4, as well as attempted more corners (14-1). Erin Kinz provided the Lady Soccer Monarchs with four saves in her 90 minutes of work.
