Garbutt releases 2016-17 rowing schedule

NORFOLK, Va. – ODU Rowing head coach Dan Garbutt released the 2016-17 rowing schedule Tuesday morning, which is highlighted by six regular season events including a home regatta on March 25, 2017.
Fall action began on October 22 as the Lady Monarchs traveled to Cambridge, Massachusetts for the Head of the Charles regatta. ODU finished 10th of 39 boats in the Women’s Club 8’s with a time of 17:38.665.
The team travels to Chattanooga, Tennessee to participate in the Head of the Hooch regatta on November 5-6 as the only other fall regatta the Lady Monarchs will compete in.
Old Dominion rowing will be ringing in 2017 down in Cocoa Beach, Florida from January 2-7. The top two boats of athletes and the coaches will travel south to complete the winter training in some warmer weather.
February marks the first competitive event for rowing of the New Year as they head to New Braunfels, Texas. The Lady Monarchs will scrimmage against the University of Texas and Iowa University from Feb. 15-18.
During spring break, March 12-17, the team will head to Lake Gaston, N.C. for a spring training session before action picks back up. The Lady Monarchs host their only home regatta of the season on Saturday, March 25 on the Lafayette River in Norfolk, Va. Competing against Old Dominion in the regatta are a pair of old CAA rivals in George Mason and Drexel.
ODU opens up Big 12 conference action in Oak Ridge, Tenn. as they take on Alabama and Tennessee on April 8. The team returns to Oak Ridge the following week for the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on April 15.
The Lady Monarchs wrap up the regular season at a regatta in Occoquan, Va., just south of Washington D.C., on April 22-23. The team is slated to compete at the event include Eastern Michigan, Dayton, Kansas, George Mason, George Washington, West Virginia and Buffalo.
The Silver and Blue will travel to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for the third time this season to compete at the Big 12 Championships from May 12-14. Last season, the Lady Monarchs finished 6th-of-8 and look to improve their position this year.
