Rowing Wraps Up Winter Training at Cocoa Beach
COCOA BEACH, Fla. – The Old Dominion women’s rowing team wraps up its winter team training session this weekend in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
The team spent the week of January 2-7 in the waters of Florida where the weather was ideal for practice. Picture perfect sunsets and dolphins chasing the boats set the backdrop for the weeklong training session.
“The group is working hard and the weather has been ideal," said head coach Dan Garbutt. "The venue has been great for the group and five other collegiate teams are sharing the waters with us. It was a great training atmosphere.”
Teams from schools across the Northeast, Midwest and central states made the trip to Cocoa Beach as well to take advantage of great training conditions. Boats from the University of Wisconsin, the University of Tennessee and West Virginia University were all present. Also represented were the men and women’s teams from MIT and the men’s team from Brown University.
The Lady Monarchs have a month to prepare for a scrimmage in New Braunsfels, Texas from February 15-18. Old Dominion rowing will face off against teams from Iowa and Texas over the four-day trip in preparation for their home regatta on March 25 on the Lafayette River.
