NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team will have the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica this upcoming summer Aug. 14-21. During the week-long trip to the Central American paradise, the Lady Monarchs will play in three competitive games and host a pair of clinics, while also indulging in some of the nation's beautiful natural treasures.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for our program," said head coach Karen Barefoot. "It will be a fantastic cultural learning and team-building experience for the kids in our program."
Following the Lady Monarchs' arrival on Aug. 14, the team will play the following three evenings against local teams in the nation's capital San Jose, while also holding a youth clinic on the 15th and a Special Olympics clinic on the 17th.
After the first three days, which are all primarily basketball-focused, the Lady Monarchs will have the opportunity to explore Costa Rica and its breath-taking geography from the 17th to the 20th. The top destinations include the Arenal Volcano and Playa Conchal with activities such as snorkeling, white water rafting, zip lining and kayaking. For a detailed itinerary, view the schedule below or see the attached flyer.
"We encourage fans to join us on this trip, because, for many of the players in our program, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Barefoot.
