NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University Sailing won the Aaron Szambecki Team Race over the weekend held at Old Dominion University.
The Monarchs finished the weekend with an 18-3 record, going 6-1 in the three rounds of racing over the weekend.
The ODU team for the weekend featured skippers Jeremy Herrin, James Jacob, Dreugh Phillips, Lee Dumaliang and Jack Elkin, as well as crew Molly Stern Berg, Carter Little, Dane Pedersen, Elleanor Wells and Gabe Smith.
In the first round of races, ODU earned wins over the University of Pennsylvania, Georgetown, Kings Point, Navy, St. Mary's and Tufts, with the lone loss to College of Charleston.
The second round saw the Monarchs come back to defeat College of Charleston but fall to Georgetown for their lone loss of the second round.
In the third and final round like the first round, ODU fell to the Cougars, but defeated Georgetown to finish the 6-1 round.
ODU and Georgetown each finished with an 18-3 record, but ODU's two wins over the Hoyas clinched the tiebreaker and the win for the Monarchs.
Also over the weekend, the Monarchs finished fourth at the Hanbury Trophy Team Race.
Brendon Wilkins, Olivia Windemuller and Alex Chicoine were the skippers, while Abigail Lockler, Gavin Burkhart and Victoria Ewing were the crew. ODU finished 5-10, picking up three wins over Washington College and two over Georgetown.
