MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The No. 49 nationally ranked/No. 2 seed Old Dominion men’s tennis team (19-5) advanced to its second consecutive Conference USA Championship after blanking No. 6 seed Southern Miss (21-5) by a 4-0 score in the Semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the Adams Tennis Center.
With the victory, the Tennis Monarchs will take on No. 40 nationally ranked/No. 1 seed Rice tomorrow, Sunday, April 23 at 12:00 p.m. EST.
On Saturday, ODU tandems of Adam Moundir/Javier Jover Maestre and Michael Weindl/Jacob Nicolussi gave the Monarchs a 1-0 lead after winning their respective doubles matches.
No. 50 nationally ranked Adam Moundir made quick work out of Wen-Po Tseng (6-3, 6-4) in No. 1 singles to give ODU a 2-0 advantage.
Javier Jover Maestre was too much for Teeradon Tortrakul (6-1, 6-1) in No. 3 singles giving the Monarchs a 3-0 lead.
Michael Weindl punched Old Dominion’s ticket to the title match after downing Daniel Merker (7-5, 6-0) in No. 2 singles.
ODU has now won 11 of its last 13 matches entering Sunday’s Championship.
