Monarchs Play Campbell to Draw, 1-1

Norfolk, Va. – The ODU men’s soccer team draws a second straight non-conference match (2-1-2, 0-0-0 C-USA) after it tied Campbell (4-1-1, 0-0-0 Big South) by a 1-1 score on Tuesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. 

In the 24th minute, a goal by Junior Max Wilschrey gave the Monarchs a 1-0 lead going into the second half. Wilschrey has three goals on the season.

At the half, ODU had a 7-2 advantage in shots, while Campbell took a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

In the 74th minute, Campbell tied up the match after a JJ Donnelly header into the net from a cross by Freshman Carel Kayembe.

The Campbell goal in the second half sent the match into overtime. 

After two overtime periods, the match ended in a draw.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mertcan Akar played all 110 minutes in goal and notched two saves. 

The Monarchs held a 18-12 advantage in shots throughout the match, while the Fighting Camels notched a corner kick advantage through the two overtime periods.

With a $25 purchase of the 2017 Soccer Voucher book, fans receive 20 ticket vouchers that can be used in any combination to gain entry to any men's (or women’s) regular season game at the ODU Soccer Complex.
