LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team fell to Liberty, 3-1, in Big East play on Friday afternoon at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.

Liberty's (4-5, 2-1 Big East) Agueda Moroni scored three first-half goals to lead the Flames to the conference victory.

"It was a frustrating afternoon for us," said head coach Andrew Griffiths. "We absolutely controlled the game with both the tempo and the territory. The vast majority of the game was played in our our attacking end, so it was disappointing to only score one goal. We made some mistakes on the counter attack and that put us behind."

Erin Huffman scored the lone goal for Old Dominion (4-6, 1-2 Big East), converting on a penalty corner in the 34th minute for her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Cameran Nery-Strickland and Julia Van Dorsten recorded assists on the goal.

Huffman's tally cut the Liberty lead to 3-1 just before the half. However, following the flurry of goals in the first half, defense dominated the second half, as both teams were held scoreless.

Overall, ODU outshot Liberty, 11-10, and also held a 6-5 advantage in penalty corners. Individually, Huffman, Ashleigh Thomas and Carrie Sensenig each recorded two shots, while Kealsie Robles and Lacey Frazier combined for three saves in goal.

"We will continue to improve on playing team attack and applying pressure," said Griffiths. "And turning those opportunities into goals."

The Monarchs remain on the road for a non-conference showdown on Sunday against No. 5 North Carolina in Durham.
