KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. --Maggie Simmermacher placed third overall and the Old Dominion women's golf team finished fourth at the Palmetto Intercollegiate this week at Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
"We played a lot better than our score and finish would indicate," said head coach Mallory Hetzel. "The big numbers hurt us and if we could have those holes back, I have no doubt we would have won the tournament. It's something we will learn from."
The fourth-place finish for Old Dominion marks the second consecutive top-four finish for ODU, as the team placed third at the Pinehurst Challenge two weeks ago.
Old Dominion (+31) had its best performances in the first and third rounds at Palmetto, when the team shot a seven-over 295 as a team.
Individually, Simmermacher (+1) finished just four strokes off the lead. Diane Lim (-3) of Ole Miss, who also won the team title, took home individual medalist honors.
