Soccer Monarchs Fall at South Carolina, 3-2

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Old Dominion men’s soccer team (8-5-2. 5-2-0 C-USA) fell to South Carolina (5-8-2, 1-4-2, C-USA) on Sunday afternoon in Columbia, S.C., 3-2. The Monarchs notched two goals in the first half but could not rally back to defeat the Gamecocks. 

The Monarchs scored in just the second minute with a Niko Klosterhalfen goal. 

In the 22nd minute, Sebastien Hauret notched the second goal for Old Dominion and his fourth goal of the season.

Just before halftime, South Carolina Luca Mayr was awarded a penalty kick, which closed the Monarch lead to 2-1. Not long after, the Gamecock’s tied up the match in the 43rd minute from Benjamin Gilligan. 

South Carolina scored again in the 82nd minute to take the match, 3-2.

Old Dominion outshot South Carolina, 9-8.

The Monarchs wrap up their regular season against New Mexico at the ODU Soccer Complex on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7PM.
