NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (7-7, 3-1 MAC) wrestling team dropped a non-conference dual by a score of 26-8 on Friday night against Navy (7-2, 3-1 EIWA) in the Ted Constant Center. Michael McGee and Ali Wahab both earned victories for the Monarchs.
“I didn’t think our guys wrestled bad at all. I thought everybody had fight and got after it when they got out there. We just have to be careful to not let outside factors intervene with any of our matches,” said head coach Steve Martin.
Starting the dual at 125, Michael McGee earned a technical fall over Aslan Kilic to give the Monarchs five points on the board.
In the heavyweight bout, Ali Wahab earned a takedown in overtime to earn a decision victory for the Monarchs.
“I have to give Navy credit, they wrestled every match seven minutes, said Martin. “Despite the score, our message going in was that we need you to compete and fight for position. It’s obvious that in close matches we need to widen the gaps so these close matches don’t become as close as they are.”
