PALM DESERT, Calif. -- The Old Dominion men's golf team opened up its spring season with a 13th-place finish at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate this weekend in southern California.
ODU (+20), the only east coast team in the 23-team field, finished five shots behind No. 26 Tennessee. California (-47), the 19th-ranked team in the nation, won the tournament that featured six top-40 teams.
Nick Rencis (-2) was the highest-placing Monarch. The sophomore from New Jersey entered the day in a tie for third, but carded 6-over 78 in the final round and finished in a tie for 22nd.
Calvin Greschner and Gustav Fransson had the best rounds by an ODU player on Sunday, as both players shot a 1-over 73. Greschner (+5) placed 53rd and Fransson (+6) finished 61st.
