OLYMPIC FIELD HOCKEY UPDATE: Germany Doubles Up USA In Opener, 2-1

LONDON - The United States women's field hockey team dropped their 2012 Olympic opener on Sunday evening to Germany, 2-1, at Riverbank Arena.
Former ODU star and 2006 CAA Player of the Year Caroline Nichols played in 49 minutes of Sunday's match. The Germans struck first as captain Fanny Rinne scored on a penalty corner in the seventh minute of play. Germany tacked on another goal in the 20th minute as Lisa Hahn found the back of the net.
Team USA captain Lauren Crandall cut the lead in half with a goal off a penalty corner in the 55th minute of play but the United States was unable to get any closer and fell, 2-1.
