Lady Monarchs Release 2012 Field Hockey Schedule

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University field hockey team and head coach Beth Anders released their 19-game schedule for 2012 on Friday.
With an always challenging schedule, Old Dominion is set to face six teams that qualified for the 2011 NCAA Tournament including a home-and-home with the two-time defending national champions Maryland and back-to-back runner-up North Carolina.
"We face a challenging schedule, one of the best in the nation,” said Anders. “We look forward to competing in every game and enjoying the journey."
ODU begins their season with eight of their first nine contests on the road beginning once again with Penn State as they travel to University Park for the season-opener on Friday, Aug. 24. The Lady Monarchs then trek down to face American in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, Aug. 26.
The Lady Monarchs take on a pair of ACC opponents on the road after that as they head to Maryland (Aug. 31) and to Virginia (Sept. 2).
On Sunday, Sept. 9, ODU hosts Radford in their home opener at the Powhatan Sports Complex at 1 p.m. It is the first meeting between the two schools since 2007.
Heading back on the road for another set of road ACC contests, ODU faces North Carolina (Sept. 14) and Duke (Sept. 16) before opening CAA action on the road at Hofstra (Sept. 21) and at Northeastern (Sept. 23) in a game that will be played on Harvard’s campus.
The Lady Monarchs then return home to open a six-game homestand and finish with eight of their final 10 regular season games at home on Sept. 28 when they face Richmond in non-conference action before squaring off with Delaware on Sept. 30 in their CAA home opener. Towson (Oct. 5) and Drexel (Oct. 7) then pay visits to Norfolk.
Making return trips to Norfolk are Maryland (Oct. 12) and Duke (Oct. 14). The Lady Monarchs then travel to James Madison on Oct. 21 before hosting William & Mary in a non-conference midweek game on Oct. 24.
Old Dominion’s final regular season home game comes against North Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 27 before wrapping up their season on Sunday, Oct. 28 at William & Mary.
The NCAA Tournament First Round and Quarterfinal match-ups will take place on Nov 10-11 at sites to be determined. The 2012 NCAA Final Four will take place at the Powhatan Sports Complex in Norfolk on November 16 and 18. Ticket information can be found at ODUSports.com/tickets.
Old Dominion won its 15th CAA Championship and advanced to their NCAA-record 17th Final Four in Louisville a year ago. The Lady Monarchs bested 13 nationally-ranked opponents, nine of which were in the top-10 at the time, and ended the year No. 2 in the final National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.
