NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs tennis team were too much for the Spiders of Richmond by a score of 7-0 to improve to 5-2 on the season. The Spiders drop their second match in a row and fall to 3-3.

“We are excited to have beat Richmond 7-0 today," said Old Dominion head coach Dom Manilla. Manilla continued, "Richmond is a solid team and this is a huge pump up for us. I feel that today we really flexed our muscles. We had a sophomore at No. 1, freshmen at No.’s 2 and 3, and a sophomore at No. 4. They all played great, winning their matches convincingly. I was most proud of Marijana, who embraced the opportunity to play in the top half of the lineup”.

The Lady Monarchs started strong out of the gate, winning two out of the three doubles matches. Nikol Hristova and Melissa Esnal Olguin jump started the team with a convincing win over Melissa Kandinata and Brittany Boys (8-1) of Richmond. The Lady Monarchs’ freshman duo of Ingrid Vojcinakova and Marijana Novakovic took down Richmond’s No. 2 doubles team of Anna Abadias Morales and Katya Salas to seal the deal on garnering the coveted team point for Old Dominion.

Old Dominion won all of their singles matches against the Richmond Spiders. In No.1 singles, Nikol Hristova defeated Melissa Kandinata (6-4, 6-0) in straight sets. Ingrid Vojcinakova added another straight sets victory for the Lady Monarchs over Anna Abadias Morales (6-1, 6-3). Fellow freshman and doubles partner Marijana Novakovic made quick work of Elizabeth Sims (6-2, 6-0). Ivana Vukovic added another win for the Lady Monarchs at the No. 4 position against Katya Salas (6-2, 6-2). To finish off the day, senior Nika Khomovska captured another win in a three set thriller against Brittany Boys (6-0, 3-6, 6-3). Melissa Esnal Olguin handled business by defeating Denny Lamachia (6-1, 7-5).
