HAMPTON, Va. -- The Old Dominion wrestling team (1-5, 1-3 MAC) is set to compete in the 37th annual Virginia Duals Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13-14 at the Hampton Coliseum. The Monarchs, designated to the James River Pool of the National College Bracket, will take on Chattanooga on Friday at 9 a.m. on Mat 3 before following up again on Mat 3 vs. No. 16 Oklahoma at 11 a.m.

ODU enters the Virginia Duals coming off a 25-14 loss at the hands of Eastern Michigan last Sunday in Ypsilanti. Michael Hayes highlighted the afternoon for the Monarchs, knocking off returning NCAA qualifier Nick Barber, 6-4, at 149. Seldon Wright and Jack Dechow picked up bonus points with major decision victories, while Kevin Beazley improved to 13-1 on the year with a regular decision win.

The Monarchs will be guaranteed at least two dual meets on Friday and will advance into one of three potential brackets based on the results of the first two matches. With two wins Friday morning, ODU will advance into the Gold Bracket and will not wrestle again until Saturday at 2 p.m.  Should the Monarchs split dual meets or lose both, they will wrestle one more match Friday at 3 p.m. in a bracket TBA.

ODU vs. Chattanooga -- 9 AM (Mat 3)

At 9 a.m. Friday, ODU will battle the Chattanooga Mocs (3-3, 1-2 SoCon) on Mat 3. Chattanooga comes to Hampton after placing 11th as a team at the Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1-2, as the Mocs were paced by 184-pounder Bryce Carr's third-place finish. Carr knocked off two top-20 wrestlers en route to securing third place.

In dual meet action, the Mocs have claimed wins over Southeastern, VMI and Kent State this season with their three losses coming against Virginia Tech, Virginia and Ohio.

Chattanooga boasts two nationally-ranked wrestlers according to this week's Intermat poll, as junior Bryce Carr slid into the No. 17 slot at 184 while senior heavyweight Jared Johnson is ranked 11th.

The last time ODU wrestled Chattanooga, the Monarchs prevailed by a 25-12 score on Dec. 20, 2014 at the Ted Constant Center.

As a result, Moody was named Big 12 Co-Wrestler of the Week.

Aside from Missouri, OU's other dual meet win came on Nov. 20 over North Dakota State, 25-14. The Sooners dropped matches against Michigan, Cornell and Oklahoma State.
