Alex Loughton Selected Third Team Pre-Season All-American By Street & Smith's

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University's senior center forward Alex Loughton (Perth, Australia) has been selected to the third team pre-season All-American Squad by STREET & SMITH'S magazine which will hit the newsstands this week.

He joins Nate Funk (Creighton), Curtis Stinson (Iowa State), Maurice Ager (Michigan State), and Eric Williams (Wake Forest) on the third team.

Loughton, the 2005 Player of the Year in the Colonial Athletic Association and State of Virginia averaged 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Loughton was the CAA Tournament MVP and earned first team NABC District IV honors as well as honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press. Loughton also got it done in the classroom earning national academic honors by the Athletic Director's Association (NACDA) and Academic All-District honors from ESPN/CoSIDA.

Loughton ranked second in the CAA in field goal percentage (.503) and in rebounding. He is the first Monarch to ever earn a spot on a pre-season All-American team. Past ODU basketball standouts Kenny Gattison ('86), Chris Gatling ('91), Odell Hodge (`97), and Cal Bowdler ('99) were honorable mention All-Americans by Street & Smith's. Both Gatling and Bowdler were first round NBA draft selections. Earlier this month LINDY's magazine ranked ODU 21st in their pre-season top twenty-five as well as naming Loughton the 12th best center in the nation.
