RICHMOND, VA (Feb. 7, 2001) -- Freshman forward Myriah Spence (Espanola, NM) was named this week's Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week. It marks the first time this season that a Lady Monarch has been honored with this award.

This past week, Spence led the Lady Monarch's to a 2-1 record while averaging 19.7 ppg. In two conference games this week, the 6-0 forward scored a combined 45 points. Starting for the first time in her career, she collected her second double-double of the season with a career-high 16 points and 15 rebounds along with three assists and two steals in the victory over Richmond. Two days later, she again set a career-high in points with 29 on 11-of-13 shooting (.846) which included a perfect 6-of-6 from beyond the three point arc. She also wrestled away seven rebounds as Old Dominion downed East Carolina.

Earlier in the week, the Espanola, N.M. native scored 14 points as the Lady Monarchs lost to #14-ranked Rutgers. For the week, she averaged 8.3 rpg and 2.3 assists per game. In conference games only, Spence shoots at a .562 clip, second best in the league.

The Lady Monarchs are currently 13-7 overall and 9-0 in conference play. They will return to the court Sunday at American.
