NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's field hockey team put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they defeated Radford, 8-1.

Old Dominion improved to 2-5 overall, while the Highlanders fell to 2-8.

The eight goals were the most scored by the squad this season. Six different Lady Monarchs scored in the victory including two tallies from freshman Samantha Richardson (Surrey, B.C. Canada) and sophomore Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.). Richardson also collected her first career game-winner scoring the game's first goal 1:37 into the contest.

Also finding the back of the Highlander cage for the Lady Monarchs were sophomore Kathleen Shea (Elizaville, N.Y.), freshman Loran Hatch (Green Lane, Pa.), senior Jo Ann van Aswegen (Bloemfontein, South Africa), and junior Katelyn Smither (Suffolk, Va.).

Ueberroth also added in two assists and finished the day with six points.

The Lady Monarchs held a 7-1 halftime lead. Old Dominion scored four goals within the game's first ten minutes and tallied seven unanswered goals before Radford thwarted the shutout.

While junior netminder Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) got the start and made three saves, sophomore Courtney Seiders (Mount Joy, Pa.) made her Lady Monarch debut in goal in the second half and saved the lone Radford shot of the half. Radford's Jennifer Wisniewski made six saves while allowing seven goals in the first half. In the second half, the Highlanders' Stephanie Wisniewski posted a save while allowing only one goal.

Old Dominion outshot Radford, 20-5, and had a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners.

The Old Dominion field hockey team returns to action on Sunday, September 23rd in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener against Northeastern. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Foreman Field and admission to the game is free.
