NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University freshman Ambane Emmanuel (Yaounde, Cameroon) scored eight minutes into the second half as the nationally ranked Monarchs ( 10-2-1/5-1-1) handed CAA leader George Mason (10-3/6-1) its first conference loss and ended their eight game win streak with a 1-0 victory over the Patriots.

ODU ranks 13th nationally by College Soccer News, 16th by Soccer America and 20th by the coaches NSCAA/adidas.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore Trevor Banks headed the ball in the box where Emmanuel gathered it and put it in the net for the score. The Monarchs outshot the Patriots, 15-5 as ODU freshman keeper Sean Sigrist (Wauwatosa,WI.) got his first collegiate shutout. Mason's keeper Sean Kelley had seven saves on the night. The Patriots have only allowed eight goals all season.

The Monarchs return to action on Sunday when they host new CAA leader Towson (9-1-2/5-0-1) a 3-0 winner at William and Mary tonight.
