Sept. 16, 2007
Charlottesville, Va. - Old Dominion senior Alex Seleznev led the Monarchs to appearances in the consolation bracket finals in singles and doubles play at the UVA Fall Invitational on Sunday. Seleznev won his singles match, but the Monarchs fell to the University of Denver in doubles action.
After defeating Christian Welte of North Carolina State 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals if the Yellow singles consolation bracket, Seleznev squared off against Ashwin Kumar from Harvard. Seleznev cruised to an easy first set victory winning 6-0, but needed a tie breaker to win the second set 7-6 (2) and the consolation bracket championship.
In A-1 doubles play the Monarchs' duo of Eidy Igarashi and Seleznev advanced to the consolation bracket finals courtesy of two defaults by their opponents. However, they could not overcome the tandem of Holmstrom and Persson from the University of Denver who earned the 8-4 victory.
