The No. 25 Old Dominion University wrestling team will be competing in the 33rd Annual Virginia Duals Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 11-12 at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Va.

The `dual team advancement' concept started in Hampton, Va. in 1981; and has since spread throughout the wrestling community. The Virginia Duals started with eight colleges and four high schools, but over the years it has grown to 24 colleges, 48 high schools and four middle school all-star teams.

The 2013 Virginia Duals consists of 6 tournaments and by the end of Saturday night, 122 dual meets consisting of 1660 bouts will have been completed in order to determine six championship teams and six Outstanding Wrestler Awards.

ODU has competed in the Virginia Duals 26 times; the most appearances out of any college. Last year, Old Dominion finished fourth which was the best finish is school history. Since 2007, ODU has four `top-5' finishes at the Virginia Duals.

The Monarchs will be competing in a 16-team tournament throughout Friday and Saturday. Besides Old Dominion, four other participating schools are currently nationally ranked. Central Michigan leads the way as the Chippewas come into the Virginia Duals ranked No. 9. Other nationally ranked teams include: No. 10 Virginia Tech, No. 16 Edinboro and No. 20 Virginia. Boise State will also be competing in the 2013 Virginia Duals, and they just received 33 votes in the latest USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll.

The Virginia Duals committee ranks eight out of the 16 teams for the college tournament. This year, ODU received the sixth seed and will face The Citadel in their first match at 11 a.m. on Friday.
