No. 52 Harel Srugo And Henrique Cancado Advance To Doubles Main Draw At All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. -- The doubles team of No. 52 sophomore Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel) and senior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) are advancing to the main draw as one of eight doubles from the qualifying bracket at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships.

No. 18 Srugo will also be featured in the singles main draw as one of the top 16 seeds in the 64-man bracket. He opens play against No. 42 Ivan Bjelica of Mississippi State in the first round.

Srugo and Cancado advanced after picking up a thrilling 9-8 (4) victory over Texas A&M's Jerry Makowski and Connor Pollack in the second round and then a 8-5 win over N.C. State's Nick Cavaday and William Noblitt.

The Monarchs other qualifying bracket entry of junior Eidy Igarashi (São José do Rio Preto, Brazil) and sophomore Alex Seleznev (Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic) fell just one match shy of reaching the main draw. The Monarch duo defeated Adrian Pripic and Bojan Szumanksi of Texas Tech, 8-2, in the second round but then fell 8-1 to Arnau Brugues and Federico Soriano of Tulsa.

No. 78 Igarashi also fell just one match sort of reaching the main draw in singles. He dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to No. 75 Marcus Echtler of Stetson.

The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2006-07 collegiate tennis season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
