Sophomore Ashley Kramer (Jefferson Hills, PA) scored two goals and Maura Linz (Prospect, KY) had four assists to lead the Old Dominion women's soccer team to a 5-0 non-conference victory over American University on Sunday. The win was the first shutout of the season for ODU and breaks a four-game losing streak.

The Lady Monarchs got things going quickly and scored all five goals in the first half. Diane Baucom (Va. Beach, VA) got ODU rolling when she netted her third tally of the year just over four and a half minutes into the game. She faked a corner kick and passed it to Linz who gave it back to her for a long cross field shot over the goalie's reach. Linz would assist on the next goal as well when she was able to get the ball to an open Meredith Worsley (Durham, NC) who slid it past the diving keeper to give ODU a 2-0 advantage.

Linz, the 2001 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year, broke an Old Dominion record for most assists in a game with her performance on Sunday. Kramer and freshman Heather Vaughan (Va. Beach, VA) were the benefactors of her other two passes. Kramer's two goals came back to back within four minutes of each other at 31:12 and 35:07. Both times she was able to break free and score after taking passes from Linz and Kasey Johnson (Va. Beach, VA). Vaughan added more insurance with 17 seconds left in the half when her header deflected off a defender and into the goal.

Kristen Bailey (Hamilton, VA) made five saves in the first half and Stephanie Miller (Plymouth Meeting, PA) made two of her own in the second period to combine for the shutout. ODU fired 16 shots to American's 14 but were called offsides 18 times compared to none for AU.

Old Dominion will look to take their momentum into next week when they open their CAA schedule against James Madison. They will take on the Dukes Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
