Norfolk - ODU Hall of Famer and NBA veteran player and coach Kenny Gattison (ODU'86) will join the radio broadcast team for Monarch basketball games this season as the color analyst on ESPN 94.1 FM, as announced today by the athletic department and ODU Sports Properties, the marketing and media rights holder for Old Dominion athletics.

Gattison will join play by play announcer Ted Alexander on all Monarch home games, providing insights on the game action and strategies, dissecting the opponents and more.

One of the most decorated players in ODU history, Gattison was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year in 1986 and an honorable mention Associated Press All American in both 1985 and 1986. He scored 1,623 points and pulled down 963 rebounds, which set a Sun Belt record. He was selected in the third round of the NBA draft in '86 by Phoenix and played nine years in the league for Phoenix, Charlotte and Vancouver. He served as an assistant coach with New Jersey and most recently with the New Orleans Hornets. Prior to his NBA coaching stints, he served as an assistant coach with current ODU coach Blaine Taylor in 2002 and 2003.

"I am very excited to be back in Hampton Roads and associated with ODU again," says Gattison. " I look forward to contributing my knowledge of the game to the broadcasts and working with Ted." Gattison's No. #44 jersey was retired at ODU in 1992. He earned a degree in distributive education from ODU in 1986. The Wilmington, NC native was inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 1991, and was named to the Sun Belt Conference's All-Time Men's Basketball team.

Alexander will begin his third season as the voice of the basketball Monarchs, calling the play by play and hosting the weekly radio show with Blaine Taylor. ODU basketball radio veteran Rick Kiefner will host the pre-game show at home games, and provide halftime interviews.

The women's basketball broadcasts and coaches shows with Wendy Larry will be hosted again by Tony Mercurio, who begins his 19th season as the voice of the Lady Monarchs. Susan Montgomery, former Lady Monarch assistant coach, will join Mercurio for her fourth season on the home game broadcasts as the color analyst.
