ODU Ranked Sixth in CAA in Preseason Poll

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ  -The Old Dominion wrestling team is ranked 6th in the Colonial Athletic Association in the preseason poll, with 17 points.  The Monarchs also have seven wrestlers ranked in the CAA, while Redshirt Sophomore Christian Staylor (Chesapeake, VA/125 lbs) is ranked nationally (17th according to Amateur Wrestling News, 20th according to InterMat).


Staylor is ranked 2nd in the 125-weight class for the Monarchs, freshman B.J. Compton (Christiansburg, VA) is 6th at 133, Junior Shanon Slack (Richmond, VA) is 4th in the 141 weight class, freshman Hunter Davenport (Chesapeake, VA) is 6th in the 149 class, Junior Robby Gosnell (Warrenton, VA) is 6th at 165, Senior John Adams (Chesapeake, VA) is 5th in 174 and Junior Adam Wright (Dayton, VA) is 3rd at 184.


Hunter Davenport also made the 2004-05 CAA Preseason All-Freshman team, along with Heavyweight Alec Eaton (Meade, MD).  B.J. Compton (133) and Andrew Jordan (Newark, DE/197) both were named Honorable Mention.


The Monarchs will hold a scrimmage at the ODU Athletic Administation Building November 13 at 3:30, following the wrestling clinic, before opening their regular season November 20, hosting the ODU Invitational at the ODU Field House Gym.  The Monarchs will also participate in the Missouri Open November 21, in Columbia, MO.
