Men's Tennis Advance To CAA Tournament Semifinals

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Old Dominion men's tennis team was among the top four top seeds to advance in quarterfinal action at the 2007 CAA Men's Tennis Championship Friday at Huntington Park Tennis Center. No. 2 Old Dominion topped No. 7 Delaware by a score of 4-0.

In other quarterfinals action, No. 4 Georgia State blanked the fifth-seeded UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 4-0. The Rams of VCU, the championship's top seed, ran past No. 8 Hofstra, 4-0, while third-seeded William & Mary eliminated the six-seed James Madison, 4-0, to move into Saturday's semifinals.

Old Dominion notched the doubles point using two 8-1 wins from Harel Srugo and Henrique Cancado over Delaware's Nolan Greenberg and Jason Hanschmann at the number one, and from Alex Seleznev and Eidy Igarashi over Austin Longacre and Andrew Blumberg at number two. In singles, Seleznev dropped just one game at number three topping Delaware's Matt Liebman, 6-1, 6-0. Igarashi beat the Blue Hens' Sam Barrer, 6-1, 6-1 at the fourth spot, and Rodrigo Souza of ODU, topped Jon Schwartz 6-0, 6-2 at number five.

In Saturday's semifinals, No. 1 VCU will meet fourth-seeded Georgia State while the second-seeded Monarchs of Old Dominion take on No. 3 William & Mary at 1 p.m. All four teams are ranked in the top 50 in the nation.
