Lady Monarchs Down UNC-Greensboro, 6-1

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The Old Dominion University women's tennis team improved its mark to 3-0 on the season with a 6-1 victory over UNC-Greensboro on Friday afternoon at the indoor tennis courts at Center Court Racket Club.

Senior Nataly Cahana and Fernada Luiz helped the Lady Monarchs win the doubles point. The Lady Monarch duo defeated Greenboro's team of Peel and Wade for a 8-2 No. 1 doubles victory. Old Dominion earned the point with a default at No. 3 doubles. UNC-Greensboro's took the No. 2 doubles match defeating ODU's team of Coralie Herrmann and Larissa Santos.

Old Dominion earned victories in four of the five singles matches. All four Lady Monarch singles wins came in straight sets. Senior Nataly Cahana, ranked #33 in the country, cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Carlin Kanna at No. 1 singles. Freshman Fernanda Luiz earned a No. 2 singles win with a 7-6, 6-4 decision over Emily Wade, while fellow newcomer Larissa Santos picked up a 6-3, 6-3 No. 3 singles win over Kate LaCoste. Maria Martinez rounded out the ODU victories with No. 6 singles win over Lowdes Moran, 6-3, 7-6.

UNC-Greensboro's lone singles victory came at No. 2 singles as Lindsey Peel defeated the Lady Monarchs' Coralie Herrmann, 7-6, 6-4.

The Lady Monarchs will return to action next weekend at the VCU 4-1 Invitational in Richmond.
