Monarch Swimming Tops Davidson/ Falls to William and Mary and UNCW

Final Stats

The Old Dominion swimming team finished their annual Scholarship Meet on Saturday as the men's squad defeated Davidson but fell to William and Mary and UNC-Wilmington. The Lady Monarchs dropped all three of their matches in the two-day event.

The Monarchs (3-6) topped Davidson, 239-100, but came up short, 197.5-146.5 and 215.5-124.5, to the Tribe and Seahawks, respectively. The women's team (3-8) lost 206-140 to Davidson, 208-143 to W&M and 201-140 to UNCW.

Leading the way for the men's team was Nate Tschohl (Chesapeake, VA) who had three third place finishes; 16:54.29 in the 1650 free, 1:57.93 in the 200 fly and 4:55.37 in the 500 free. Martin Lundgren (Vaxjo, Sweden) earned two-second place finishes with times of 1:57.41 in the 200 fly and 2:02.39 in the 200 IM. Diver Tommy Dingus (Falls Church, VA) came in second in both diving events, tallying 365.46 points in the three-meter and 225.16 points in the one-meter. The relay team of Ryan Ashby (Esicodini, Zimbabwe), Paul McGraw (Va. Beach, VA), Ian Smith (Hampton, VA) and Brian Julich (Sanford, NC) earned a second place showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

On the women's side Jessica Miller (Fairfax, VA) won two events, the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.77 and the 200 back in 2:25.85. Senior Sarah Mooney (Riverside, RI) took a second place finish and two thirds in her final home meet at ODU. She recorded a time of 1:00.68 in the 100 backstroke, good enough for second, and came in third in the 200 backstroke (2:09.61) and 200 yard IM (2:13.75). Leslie Blaine (Fairfax, VA) also recorded a win in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:46.02. Junior diver Michelle Kenney (Richmond, VA) finished first in the one-meter diving event with 203.90 points and second in the three-meter with 375.20 points.

In other results, the UNCW men and women were victorious in all of their matches, finishing a perfect 6-0 as a team, while both Tribe teams picked up victories over Davidson.

ODU will next be in action next Saturday as they take on Marist and University of Maryland-Baltimore County at UMBC starting at 12:00 p.m.
