Wendy Larry Named To USA Basketball Collegiate Committee

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has named Old Dominion women's basketball head coach Wendy Larry to the 2005-2008 USA Basketball Collegiate Committee it was announced on Wednesday.

The USA Basketball Women's Collegiate Committee is responsible for the selection of players and coaches who compete in collegiate-aged international competitions including FIBA's U19 and U21 World Championships, FIBA Americas' U19 and U21 qualifying tournaments, Pan American Games, World University Games, and other assigned events.

The 2005-2008 Collegiate Committee is chaired by Sue Donohoe, the NCAA's Vice President for Division I Women's Basketball. Appointed to the committee by the NCAA were Sherri Coale, head women's coach at the University of Oklahoma; Jim Foster, head women's coach at Ohio State University; Trina Patterson, head women's coach at the University of Albany (N.Y.); and Stanford University (Calif.) head women's coach Tara VanDerveer, who served as head coach of the historic 1995-96 USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team and the 1996 USA Olympic gold medalist team. Named to the committee by the NAIA was Julie Van Beek, head women's coach at Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville, Tenn.), appointed by the NJCAA selected Mary "Roonie" Scovel, head women's coach at Gulf Coast Community College (Panama City, Fla.), while the WBCA appointed Larry. The athlete representatives for the Women's Collegiate Committee includes Beth Cunningham, a member of the 1999 USA Pan American Games bronze medalist team, and 1996 Olympic gold medalist Carla McGhee.

Larry, who will enter her 19th season at Old Dominion in the upcoming 2005-06 season, has compiled a 426-142 record at the helm of the Lady Monarch program and a 475-173 record in 21 seasons as a head coach. An active committee and board member throughout her career, she is currently wrapping up her two-year term as the President of the WBCA and has also served on the USA Today Coaches' Poll board, the NCAA East Regional Women's Basketball Advisory Committee, and the advisory committee for Coaches Vs. Cancer.

Based in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA Basketball is a non-profit organization and the national governing body for men's and women's basketball in the United States. As the recognized governing body for basketball in the United States by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), USA Basketball is responsible for the selection, training and fielding of USA teams that compete in FIBA sponsored international basketball competitions, as well as for some national competitions.
