NORFOLK, VA -- Old Dominion's Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending September 30th, it was announced today by the conference. The award marks the third conference player of the week distinction for a Lady Monarch this year.
Loy served as a sparkplug in the Lady Monarch's 9-0 thrashing of Temple on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore collected eight points on the afternoon netting three goals and assisting on two others. The eight points amassed by Loy marks a single-game high in the CAA to date in the 2001 season. Loy's contribution on the defensive end also helped seal Old Dominion's third shutout this season. The Owls were only able to attempt three shots all day on the Lady Monarch net.
The Lady Monarch field hockey team will have a two-game road swing up in Storrs, CT facing BIG EAST powerhouse Connecticut and America East's New Hampshire, a team which received at at-large bid to last year's NCAA Tournament. It will mark the end of Old Dominion's six-game road stand as the Lady Monarchs return to Foreman Field to host CAA rival William and Mary on Friday, October 12th at 6:00 p.m.
